Transfer Tips
The following tips should help
you create better transfers for either a heat press or an iron. If you have any other suggestions that
you think would be helpful please let us know.
Mouse pads and
t-shirts will last longer and stay nicer if you iron on a blank
piece of paper for about 15 seconds after you have ironed on the
transfer. This seals in the colors.
Try not to bend a
mouse pad right after you transfer on to it. This will cause the
transfer to bend and possibly crack.
Trim the excess
off of mouse pads with an “exacto knife” or a pair of nail scissors
(something small and very sharp).
Do not try and
print the image in 1440 DPI. 720 or 600 DPI or similar is fine. Too
much ink will bleed when you press it on.
Cut the excess
transfer paper (the part of the paper where there is no image) off
BEFORE you iron on the image.
Have the heat
press as hot as possible.
The faster the
image is put on the better. Hotter = Faster.
Peel away the
transfer immediately.
Always start
peeling at a corner.
For a shiny finish
put the transfer paper you just transferred off of back on the image
for 10-15 seconds.
Always wash the
t-shirts before you transfer and try to use cotton/polyester fill
shirts; 50/50 blend work better and won't shrink terribly.
Make sure you DO
NOT wash any of your freshly ironed on items until 48 hours
after the item has been ironed on. The dye needs to set.
Do not leave any
items in a washing machine longer then necessary. Don’t put a load
of cloths in the wash and go to the store. The inks/dyes will bleed
together even if they were washed in cold water.
This is because items left wrapped around
the agitator will bend and crease the designs if they are left
sitting there too long.
Always use
colorfast detergents or try to find mild detergents. Use cold
water and do not over dry. This is because by over drying you will
cause them to crack and loose their longevity.
For care
instructions you might want to have a little print out to give to
your customers when they purchase t-shirts or any other ironed on
item from you. This will hopefully avoid the customer from making
some very common mistakes, it will keep them happy and possibly
encourage reorders.
