Display panels
are some kind of material that allows you to show off framed
pictures. For examples, see the link "Display
Pictures" on the left.
When a customer walks up to your
display they need to be overwhelmed. You want them to say, "Oh- how
cute!" They should look all around for a moment or so and then start
flipping through the bins. Remember- you know what Friendly Folks
is, they don't. If you are sitting there behind a table with four
or five framed prints on easels and a brochure in your hand it's not
going to help them. You need some sort of display panel to show off
your prints!
Where
do I get display panels?
-
Buy them. This is the
easiest! They cost around $300-$400 for a nice setup. We have
one in the office that's lightweight, portable and comes with
it's own carrying case. It's perfect for craft shows.
-
Build them yourself.
Most people do this to save money.
Build it is big as possible but
remember your table size and who has to lift it and put it
together!
How
do I build it? What materials should I use?
Most people use some sort of
lightweight wood and hang the pictures on it. We've found the
easiest way is to use wood but cover the front side with felt. Then
take strips of male Velcro and attach it to the back of the prints.
This makes it easy to set up. Just put up the display and
stick on the prints! Also, if someone bumps into your table your
prints won't fall off!
What
titles should I display?
You should stick with as many "basic" titles as
possible such as doctor, messy office, lovers on the beach, tub
time, etc... Prints #1 - #60 are the most general and have a
wide appeal. Of course you can use any prints you want.
How should I personalize the prints?
Make them as funny as possible. If you can make people laugh then
you're making them feel good. If you make them feel good then they
are more likely to buy something. Also, if a shopper sees something
funny she'll motion for her friends to come over and take a look.
If your sense of
humor is escaping you another great display tip is to personalize
the prints with the names of local shops and people. When
someone sees something they know that will get excited and bring
over their friends to take a look.
How
many prints should I have on display?
As many as you can fit! It's been proven time and time again- the
more prints you have on display, the more you're going to sell.
What
kind of frames should I use?
We have been the most successful using wood frames
with a light oak finish. Of course, we happen to sell them! But
if do not buy frames from us that's OK, but please, do not use cheap $2 frames
from Wall-Mart! They look terrible and the customers know they only
cost $2!
Display Companies
The following companies offer various ready made displays. Also
some of them sell inexpensive pop-up tents. These protect your
customers (and you) from the sun and make your display area like a
little "store". For a couple hundred bucks, they really can add a
nice touch to your display. Also check out places like Sam's
Club.
